The Swiss win. Twice. First they win at home against Lithaunia, then the team of Othmar Hitzfeld scores big in Athens with a 2-1 against Greece. Still way to go for the qualification for South Africa 2010, but looking better now.

Not so in the European leagues, where all Swiss teams but FC Basel (in the champs league) dropped out without even the slightest chance for qualification and the FC Basel has not yet won a single point in its three matches against Donetzk, Sporting and Barcelona (two games were lost at home, the last one with a brutal 0-5 against the artists from Barcelona). It was a great experience and a great tourney. Not for us Swiss though as our team played a terrible tournament, not counting the useless victory against the B-team from Portugal (and not for the Three Lions, that I missed the most!). The inevitable change was secured even before Euro 2008, as Ottmar Hitzfeld of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund fame could be won as new head coach. Expectations for the world cup qualification were high. Very high. Read more
