Wenger Points the Finger at Spanish Press!

Saturday, February 11th, 2012, 3:01 pm

The Betvictor review shows Robin Van Persie in sensational form so far this season, and with Arsenal struggling to offer the wages of some of Europe’s giants, stan james odds point to the striker moving away from the Emirates this summer.

Spain’s Madrid based newspaper ‘Marca’ has reported this week that Van Persie is set for a move to the Bernabeau but Arsene Wenger has insisted there is no truth in reports that Robin van Persie could soon be on his way out of Arsenal.

The Dutchman is having his best season in an Arsenal shirt, and his hat trick against Blackburn in  the 7-1 win last week took his tally to 28 for the season in all competitions.

Just like Cesc Fabregas before him however, Van Persie – who has yet to commit to a new, long-term deal – has been heavily linked with a move to Spain.

An article in the Marca newspaper quoted the 28-year-old as claiming it would be ‘an honour’ to be linked with Read Madrid, and he would be ‘excited at the prospect of playing there’.

Van Persie has always expressed his loyality and desire to stay at the club he loves and has denied ever giving such an interview and Wenger has now accused the Spanish media of trying to unsettle his captain.

“Frankly, Marca is as creative as some English newspapers. That means you cannot believe every word that is said in Marca,” Wenger said.

“They don’t care, Marca, at all. I think they are even far more from real evidence than any English newspapers. They create just stories.”

Wenger maintained there had been no contact from Barcelona or Real Madrid over Van Persie, and if they did, they would be given short shrift.

“What do you think? Barcelona knows that they have a difficult job with us, always,” he said.

Van Persie had earlier said on Twitter: “Contrary to reports in Spain I have NEVER spoken to Marca newspaper and never gave any interview. Enjoy your day.”
