Oldfootballshirts.com Player Sponsorship League table since 15 Sept 08
For a bit of fun I am running an Oldfootballshirts.com League table for the 4 teams we now sponsor. Starting from the date we began sponsoring players kits of Brighton, Newport County, Annan Athletic & Bangor FC.
(All links open in new window leading to team sites and football shirts for sale)
Our sponsored player, Ryan Adamson, played for most of the match before being subbed with 79 minutes gone, but Annans current run of poor form keeps going.
[From the BBC]
Dumbarton smashed Annan with a four-goal burst before the break - with a helping hand from their opponents. Peter Watson diverted Gordon Lennon’s cross past his own keeper and Annan keeper Dougie Calder was powerless to deny Paul Keegan’s rifled shot. Calder then gifted Dumbarton a third goal when he brought down Derek Carcary and Ross Clark scored the penalty. Stuart Hill then turned the ball into his own net, while Annan replied with a great free kick from Alan Inglis.
The news was far better from South Wales
Our sponsored player, Craig Hughes had a cracking game by the sound of it, finishing a great day for Newport County by getting on the scoresheet in the 57th minute.
[From http://www.newport-county.co.uk ]
The weather was awful as County faced a potentially season defining game three days after the bitter disappointment of FA Cup exit, yet again the fans turned up in large numbers and gave Dean Holdsworth’s men their full backing. How they were rewarded as County swept aside their opponents to bring a smile to everyone’s face except the handful who had travelled west from the metropolis. The first goal owed a little to fortune on 20 minutes as keeper Gareth Williams completely misjudged Paul Bignot’s wind assisted cross from the right which ended in the top corner of the net. Eight minutes later Rob Gillman felled Craig Reid after the on loan Grays forward had moved well to collect Danny Rose’s pass and Reid stepped up to send Williams the wrong way from the spot. Bromley had wind advantage after the break but the game remained as one-sided in County’s favour and Bromley’s Adam Everitt saw red in the 65th minute after two fouls on Paul Hall in quick succession. Two minutes later 10-man Bromley were three goals adrift as Craig Hughes finished good approach play from Rose and Reid, and it was celebration time.
While in Northern Ireland…
Bangor FC 1-0 Lisburn Distillery
Our sponsored player, Andrew Plummer saved his third penalty of the season, and helped Bangor onto their third win in a row and lifted them to fifth in the table . No place in the team for Jim McMenamin, let’s hope he gets back into contention for a place in the starting line up soon. A great set of photos from the game here at Darran Gilpins website
[Match Report by Neil Watson ]
Bangor made it three consecutive wins with a hard fought victory over high flying Lisburn Distillery. The game sprung into life in the second half, with Andrew Plummer saving his third penalty of the season. The impressive Bangor keeper made a string of other top drawer saves before Darren Lockhart headed his first goal for Bangor in the 81st minute to secure another vital three points for the Seasiders.
And Finally….
Brighton 3-3 Cheltenham
Least said the better. Our sponsored player Scott Chambelain is still to make his first team outing this season. He, and all the rest of us will be desperate for the side to hold onto a lead and finish a home game in front. For the second time in a week Brighton gave up their lead in the 94th minute.
[From the BBC]
Andy Gallinagh’s stoppage time goal earned 10-man Cheltenham a battling draw at Brighton. Glenn Murray headed home and tapped in for the Seagulls but each of his goals were cancelled out by Scott Murray, whose second was a tremendous volley. Another Glenn Murray header made it 3-2 before Josh Payne was red-carded for Cheltenham after protesting over the rejection of a penalty. But Gallinagh struck in the 94th minute to earn his side a draw.
So, to the table up to and including Saturday 4th October 2008
